Advice To My Fellow Techies

After spending a fun couple of days unraveling a mess inherited by a prior co-worker, I will share a few observations that I have made over my career.
Simple and functional that meets the business need wins!

Knives To The Gunfight

Understanding the political tenor of our current environment, I am not sure that there is a better visual image of the 2012 election.  Anything approximating an honest measurement between the two campaigns and how they were executed highlights just how much work is ahead for Republicans, especially Conservatives.

Competition For Best One-Liner (#LogicOfGunControl)

In the course of political discourse, few things are more effective (or fun) as mockery of the opposing viewpoint!  In the case of the current debate about gun control, making fun of the emotion-based diatribes is the best response!
To this end, I am announcing a little friendly competition for the best mocking one-liner.  Already today, I've tweeted (@SwamiDaveSays if you are not already following):

2014 On The Horizon - Part 2

For those who missed it, you can read the first post in this series here.
Because it is better to fight battles on your opponent's side of the field, our first focus will be retaking of the U.S. Senate.  As mentioned in the earlier post, of the 35 Senate seats to be decided in the 2014 election, Republicans would need a net gain of 6 to return to the majority.

2014 On The Horizon

The 2014 mid-terms are less than 2 years away. As is the case, every seat in the House of Representatives will be contested as well as 35 of the seats in the U.S. Senate. That does not even address the Governor and State Legislature races that will be on the ballot as well.

George Will Gets It Right

I often disagree with George Will, but in a recent column in the Washington Post, he hits the nail on the head! With his planned focus on a hugely "progressive" agenda to cement his legacy during his second term, President Obama will be doing more to aid Republicans in both 2014 and 2016 than they could have likely done themselves.

Inaugural Talking Points Meet Political Reality

Among the Liberal Talking Points that made up the basis for his 2nd Inaugural Address, President Obama gave a political shout-out to the Environmentalist member of his base. In the first of many occasions where his promises will conflict with reality,

The Coming Over-Reach

There are times when predicting the future based on past results is just too easy.

Dan Pfeiffer, Obama's communication director, shares the perception that will ultimately lead to the Obama administrations 2nd term overstep: "There’s a moment of opportunity now that’s important. What’s frustrating is that we don’t have a political system or an opposition party worthy of the opportunity."

Advice To Republicans: Continue Working On Your Agenda

That's right!

President Obama has completed his 2nd Inaugral speech. Reading the text (I frankly had better things to do than watch the infomercial), he listed a number of agenda items for his second term:
