Educating PrezBO's Wasserman-Schultz

This article first appeared on Aug 14, 2011.

For those who haven’t heard the latest intellectually vacant spin from the retooling PrezBO re-election campaign, today we review comments on one of today’s Sunday shows by DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.

“President Obama inherited a huge problem, the worst recession that we’ve had since the Great Depression, created by the policies, the failed policies of the previous Republican administration, where we went from a record surplus to a record deficit.” -D. Wasserman-Schultz on CBS “Face the Nation” – 08/14/2011

Just a few quick points for the Chairwoman….

  1. I do not know (and would not ask) her age, but most Americans who were alive in the late 1970s remember double-digit inflation, interest rates, and unemployment. It coined a new term “stagflation” and actually WAS (and still is) the *worst* recession since the Great Depression. It is not surprising that liberals such as the Chairwoman would attempt to avoid that historical fact as it undoubtedly serves as a poignant reminder to them of their last Presidential forays into big government Keynesian failure. I will acknowledge that the policies that she and PrezBO have implemented and espoused are leading us quickly back toward Carter-era depths of economic morass, but it is THEIR failed policies that have made a bad situation worse!
  2. Respectfully to the Chairwoman, it is because adherents to her failed political theology have continued implementing tax-and-spend, big government liberals transfer payments and programs that our nation’s fiscal situation is at such risk. Much like PrezBO, she continues blaming others for the failings of her own ideas.
In the height of hubris and arrogance, she parrots the now-consistent liberal talking point blaming the “Tea Party” for our current situation. This ignoring the fact that many of the current legislative Tea Party members are FRESHMAN who have been in Congress for less than 9 months! These members are not responsible for the years of debt ran up funding entitlements and liberal redistributionist schemes. It is only thanks to the influence and principled stance of those members that political leaders did not yet again simply raise the nation’s debt ceiling foisting the more of the ever-growing debt onto our children and grandchildren.
  3. While we are correcting the Chairwoman’s historical frame of reference, there NEVER was a “surplus” that she and other liberals like to tout during the Clinton administration. A “surplus” would have required that America’s revenue intake actually covered its expenditures during which there would have been no increase in our debt. The Clinton Administration’s own OMB published readily-available statistics showing that America’s debt increased year-over-year during all of their 8 years. There was NEVER a surplus in any of their years nor was there ever credible evidence that one would have ever materialized.

Actually, the so-called “surplus” that liberals tout are simply more phony accounting gimmicks based on laughable growth projections (that are never met) or spending restraints (that are never held) leading to economic conditions that are likely to occur as the return of the unicorns!

If this silly spin is the best that PrezBO and his campaign shills can produce, he (and they) can look to the near future when his Administration takes on another historical comparison to that of Jimmy Carter!
